Although a drainage basin is often described by a single set of whole-basin parameters, its component segments, or sub-basins, can differ substantially in morphometric character, with direct consequences for how hydrologic hazard is distributed across the catchment. This study examines the differences in morphometric parameters across the seventeen third-order sub-basins, or segments, of the Cross River Basin (CRB), a transboundary catchment of approximately 51,892 km² in southeastern Nigeria and western Cameroon. Descriptive variability statistics (mean, standard deviation and coefficient of variation) and paired t-tests were applied to linear and areal parameters extracted from a 2020 ASTER Digital Elevation Model. Results show that the seventeen segments differ most sharply in size-related parameters, with basin area exhibiting a coefficient of variation (CV) of 53.6%, total stream length 49.2%, and number of streams 48.5%, the largest segment (4,769.49 km²) exceeding the smallest (826.94 km²) by a factor of nearly six. Shape-related parameters occupy an intermediate position (CV between 19% and 36%), while drainage density (CV = 11.4%) and length of overland flow (CV = 10.7%) are comparatively uniform across segments. A paired t-test comparing first-order and second-order mean stream length across the seventeen segments returned statistically significant difference (t = 3.66, p = 0.002), while a paired t-test comparing first-to-second-order and second-to-third-order bifurcation ratios did not reach significance (t = 1.69, p = 0.111). On the strength of this evidence, the null hypothesis of no significant difference in the morphometric parameters of the Cross River Basin's segments is rejected. The findings demonstrate that the CRB is morphometrically heterogeneous at the sub-basin scale, most markedly in size and network complexity and least markedly in drainage density, a pattern with direct implications for how the basin's hydrologic response and flood risk should be assessed and managed on a segment-by-segment rather than whole-basin basis.

Statistical thermodynamics establishes a quantitative relationship between microscopic states and macroscopic observables through the partition function. In the conventional formulation, the primitive microscopic objects are particle configurations, spin configurations, or field configurations. The resulting statistical ensembles determine thermodynamic quantities such as internal energy, entropy, free energy, and heat capacity. Although this framework has been extraordinarily successful, the microscopic state space depends strongly on the particular physical system under consideration. No general structural state variable presently exists that characterizes microscopic organization independently of its specific physical realization.
In this paper, we propose that architectures constitute a primitive class of microscopic objects. Every finite architecture admits a Canonical Architectural Decomposition into transport, interaction, holonomy, and recursion. Based on this decomposition, we introduce the Architectural Magnitude as a structural state variable that characterizes architectural complexity independently of its physical implementation.
Architectural ensembles are then proposed as structural analogues of conventional statistical ensembles. Replacing microscopic configurations by architectures leads naturally to an architectural partition function from which thermodynamic quantities may be reconstructed. Within this framework, energy, entropy, free energy, and response functions become derived quantities associated with architectural ensembles rather than with individual particle configurations. The same structural framework further provides a natural setting for Green functions, operator reduction, and spectral observables.
The present work establishes the mathematical foundations of architectural statistical mechanics. While the construction of architectural ensembles and the associated partition function are formulated mathematically, their interpretation as a universal microscopic description of physical systems is proposed as a hypothesis for further investigation.

This repository contains the complete processed datasets and custom computational codebase required to reproduce the core findings, frequency-domain diagnostics, and multidimensional phase-space visualizations presented in our study.
By employing a spatiotemporal Fast Multidimensional Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition (fast-MEEMD) framework and the Hilbert-Huang Transform (HHT), our study unmasks a fundamental physical dichotomy in the climate-ecosystem continuum over the Loess Plateau (comparing the 2001 and 2006 extreme compound hot-dry events). We objectively identify a "quasi-40-day spectral gap" that serves as a topological barrier, effectively separating high-frequency atmospheric shocks (weather) from low-frequency soil moisture memory (hydrology). The trajectory of cross-scale phase dynamics around this critical 40-day threshold provides a continuous, physics-based biomarker for anticipating lethal hydraulic resonance and macroscopic carbon sink collapse.
1. Data Structure Please note that the raw meteorological forcings and GPP datasets are excessively large and publicly hosted elsewhere (see Data Provenance). This repository exclusively hosts the processed derivative matrices necessary for direct reproduction of the study's results:
Harmonized_Anomalies: Standardized daily anomaly matrices (z-scores) of GPP, 2-meter air temperature, VPD, and depth-weighted soil moisture over the extended growing season (April–September).
Decomposed_IMFs: The isolated Intrinsic Mode Functions (IMFs 1 to 8) and residual trends extracted via the fast-MEEMD algorithm.
Instantaneous_Phase_Amplitude: Daily instantaneous period and energy arrays derived from the HHT for high-frequency physiological carriers and sub-seasonal environmental modulators.
2. Code Structure All signal processing, statistical, and plotting algorithms are modularized for clarity and reproducibility. The codebase includes:
01_Spatial_K_Scan: Scripts for performing Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) spatial dimensionality optimization and extracting the K=5 truncation threshold.
02_Fast_MEEMD_Decoupling: Core algorithm for executing the spatiotemporal signal decoupling to isolate non-stationary oscillations.
03_KL_Divergence_KDE: Statistical modules computing the zero-crossing instantaneous periods, Gaussian Kernel Density Estimations (KDE), and the symmetric Jeffreys Kullback-Leibler (K-L) divergence.
04_2D_Huang_Spectrum: Visualization scripts for mapping the multi-IMF energy-weighted composite trajectories onto the 2D cross-frequency topological state space.
3. Data Provenance & Acknowledgements
ERA5-Land Hydroclimatic Forcings: Raw temperature and soil moisture data, as well as the variables used to calculate VPD, were sourced from the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) Climate Data Store (https://doi.org/10.24381/cds.e2161bac).
GPP Observations: The MODIS-FLUXNET integrated GPP dataset was sourced from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory Distributed Active Archive Center (ORNL DAAC) (https://doi.org/10.3334/ORNLDAAC/1835).
Usage / System Requirements The provided scripts are extensively commented. Users should configure the input/output directory paths at the beginning of each main execution script. Detailed software versions and package dependencies (e.g., specific Python/MATLAB toolboxes for HHT and EOF analyses) are documented within the provided requirements.txt or header comments of the primary scripts.

This research compendium contains the machine-readable coordinate data and Python scripts used to reconstruct and compare psychrometric comfort and environmental-control regions for the manuscript “Thinking inside the box: A review of psychrometry in thermal comfort with composite reconstruction and field data comparison of psychrometric comfort boundaries”.
The deposit contains 473 coordinate rows representing 11 standard-pressure boundaries used in the all-context, hot-context and cold-context composite charts, together with 1,348 coordinate rows representing 16 air-movement boundary labels. Literature-derived regions were digitised from published figures, while the ASHRAE 55-2023 reference coordinates were generated computationally.
The accompanying Python code validates the coordinate structure, generates standard-pressure and air-movement psychrometric charts, constructs geometric unions of source-study regions and conducts exploratory point-in-polygon comparisons when used with an authorised local copy of the Kanto residential field dataset.
Participant-level Kanto data are not included because the household survey data are subject to privacy and data-governance restrictions. The reconstructed composite regions represent a descriptive synthesis of heterogeneous source-study boundaries and should not be interpreted as a newly validated universal thermal-comfort model.

This dataset contains nine processed national Layer A outputs supporting a detectability-aware assessment of artificial light at night inside and around Australian protected areas for 2013-2024. It includes annual inside/buffer radiance summaries, interior-ring profiles, buffer-validity descriptors, trends, categorical screening output, protected-area descriptors and geometries, IBRA assignments, and trend-bootstrap summaries.
Reproduction status. Six files reproduce historical hashes exactly. Three are accepted non-exact: the radiance CSV has no detected primary scientific drift but lacks direct historical row-level proof; the edge-profile CSV contains an accepted bounded threshold-sensitive difference, with current ring-1 feasibility of 1,432/12.9%; and the GPKG has accepted within-run semantic identity but lacks direct historical feature-level proof. All accepted primary scientific headlines match.
Interpretation. The legacy file pa_risk_rankings_v0_3_0.csv contains categorical screening output, not a priority ranking.
Scope. The deposit contains processed Layer A outputs only. Raw Atlas of Living Australia downloads, row-level ALA occurrence data, Layer B biodiversity payloads, source code, and every unlisted file are excluded.
