This is a small copy of the Aztec sun stone. The Aztec sun stone (Piedra del Sol in Spanish) is a late post-classic Mexica sculpture housed in the National Anthropology Museum in Mexico City, and is perhaps the most famous work of Aztec sculpture. The stone is 358 cm in diameter and 98 cm thick, and it weighs about 21.8 tonnes. Shortly after the Spanish conquest, the monolithic sculpture was buried in the Zócalo, the main square of Mexico City. It was rediscovered on 17 December 1790 during repairs on the Mexico City Cathedral. Following its rediscovery, the sun stone was mounted on an exterior wall of the Cathedral, where it remained until 1885. Early scholars initially thought that the stone was carved in the 1470s, though modern research suggests that it was carved some time between 1502 and 1521.   (Source: Wikipedia)

This rectangular shaped trunk of a statue, belongs to Halparunda II, King of Maras. The inscription covers the back and the sides of the statue. On the left side it starts with a standing human in relief. On the front, a mace, symbol of sovereignty; a tassel, hanging from the sash; and a sword are seen. In the inscription the king introduces himself with his titles and tells his deeds.

Above the right ear, only the broken edges of the upper phalanx of the right hand are preserved (see also Showcase No. 12). The cast shows the head with the supplements of the 19th century on the nose and the left eyebrow. Displayed at the Museum für Abgüsse Klassischer Bildwerke in Munich. It is a museum of classical paintings and sculpture. It shows sculptures of Greek and Roman antiquity from the 7th century BC to the 5th century AD.    This object is part of Scan The World. This is a marble head-portrait of Thucydides (460-395), an Athenian military general and historian. Thucydides both fought in and wrote about the Peloponnesian War, a bitter conflict between the Greek city-states Athens and Sparta from 431-404 BC. His failure to defend the city of Amphipolis (in northern Greece) against the Spartans led to his twenty-year exile from Athens and political life. Thucydides was one of the first historians to attribute the causes of war to human affair rather than to an intervention of the gods, consulting eyewitnesses and written documents in his research. He seems to have died before completing his history as the last years of fighting are not included

He worked in a Neo-classical tradition, and set out his artistic theories in his book Das Problem der Form in der Bildenden Kunst (The Problem of Form in Painting and Sculpture), published in 1893.
