Abstract:
With the diverse space of accelerators in HPC, OpenMP target offloading has become a prevalent approach in accelerator programming.
However, performance analysis has historically been challenging due to the distribution of relevant events across distinct tooling interfaces.
OMPT enables the observation of these events through a standardized runtime interface, thereby facilitating the execution of OpenMP-level offload analysis.
This paper extends the OMPT-based measurement support of Score-P to include support for target offloading.
We outline the implementation approach and portability workarounds necessary to accommodate the discrepancies between current runtime and compiler implementations.
For assessment, we investigate the overhead and compare OMPT-reported durations with vendor low-level interfaces utilizing microbenchmarks and SPEChpc 2021 benchmark workloads for the OpenMP runtimes provided by AMD ROCm and the HPE Cray Compiler Environment.
The findings of the study suggest that OMPT-based offload analysis is a valuable tool for the evaluation of specific configurations.
However, it is important to note that runtime-dependent limitations persist, particularly with regard to timestamp behavior and robustness.
Still, the portability of the interface allows analysis across different runtime implementations, without the need for supporting multiple vendor-specific interfaces.

This publication investigates the reuse of exhausted culture medium as a strategy to reduce water consumption in autotrophic microalgae production. Semi-continuous cultivations of Pseudococcomyxa simplex were performed under different medium recycling conditions, and the experimental results were integrated with mathematical modelling and process simulation to optimize purge ratio and nutrient management. The study demonstrates that culture medium recycling can substantially decrease the water footprint while maintaining stable biomass productivity, providing practical guidelines for the design of more sustainable and resource-efficient microalgal cultivation processes.

This study investigates the empirical relationship between liquidity and leverage asnonlinear determinants of risk of default as reflected by Altman Z” score. The analysis performed ona set of financial data for 291 Romanian corporates applying Generalized Additive Models (“GAMs”)and Exploratory Factor Analysis (“EFA”) uncovered significant non-linear relationships: the benefitof liquidity (Current Assets/ Current Liabilities) diminishes beyond a ratio of 2.0, while the negativeimpact of leverage (Total Liabilities/Equity) accelerates sharply beyond a threshold of 3.0. Moreover,a significant interaction effect reveals that high liquidity loses its protective value when funded byexcessive leverage, a condition perceived as "debt-funded cash". EFA results also reinforce theimportance of financial structure. The fact that the Z" score is almost exclusively driven by measuresof financial robustness—liquidity, profitability, and solvency—rather than operational efficiency(Turnover/ Total Assets) has significant implications on corporates financial management anddecision making. The present study brings an important contribution to the existing literaturededicated to the impact of specific financial indicators -liquidity and leverage – over the risk of defaultof Romanian corporates, as well as to the assessment of the underlying factors composing Altman Z”score, providing at the same time an in-depth analysis tool for professionals and managers focusingon sustainable financial management and resilience.

The language of “agents” has become pervasive in descriptions of large-language-model systems. A model equipped with tools, memory, iterative execution, and access to an environment is routinely described as an agent; systems containing several such loops are correspondingly described as multi-agent systems. This paper argues that the agent is not a necessary primitive in the computational ontology of such systems. We introduce a minimal ontology containing humans, language models, tools, memories,environments, messages, and states, together with relations describing communication and state transition. The human user is explicitly included within the ontology rather than treated as an external source of tasks. We show that behaviors ordinarily attributed to an agent—including planning, tool use, observation, memory, reflection, delegation, and iterative problem solving— can be represented as compositions of message-producing and state-transforming interactions among these components.On this basis, we formulate an agent-elimination principle: under an observational semantics, an architecture whose specification contains an agent primitive can be transformed into an interaction architecture without such a primitive while preserving its externally observable traces. The claim “agents do not exist” should therefore be understood as an eliminativist claim about computational ontology, not as the assertion that the word “agent” is useless. Agency remains useful as a higher-level description of certain interaction patterns, much as high-level programming constructs remain useful despite their elimination during compilation. This reframing has consequences for AI architecture, evaluation, alignment, human–AI interaction, and multi-agent systems. In particular, once the human is placed inside the interaction ontology, apparently autonomous agency can often be understood as a property of a larger human–model–tool system rather than of a privileged computational individual.

This publication presents a systematic screening of 28 Chlorophyta microalgal strains cultivated under standardized semi-continuous conditions in a laboratory-scale bubble column photobioreactor. The study compares biomass growth, nitrogen assimilation, and metabolite accumulation to identify strains with high industrial potential for biomass and high-value bioproduct production. Distinct physiological behaviors were identified among the investigated strains, highlighting different metabolic strategies and productivities. The proposed screening methodology provides a reproducible framework for selecting microalgal strains suitable for large-scale cultivation and contributes to bridging laboratory research and industrial microalgal bioprocess development.
