This study investigates the effects of tillage and fertilization on changes of soil organic carbon (SOC) stock in a 46-year long-term field experiment in Thailand. The economic cropping system was maize-mung bean rotation. The experiment treatments included plots with tillage, no tillage, chemical fertilizer, organic amendment, and combination of chemical and organic fertilizer. No-tillage significantly increased soil aggregate stability [water-stable aggregates (WSA), mean weight diameter, and geometric mean diameter]. However, only rice straw applications enhanced WSA. SOC stocks of the same soil mass ranged from 21.7 to 40.1 Mg C ha-1. The highest SOC stock (40.1 Mg C ha-1) and sequestration rate (0.40 Mg C ha-1 year-1) were observed in no-tillage plots with cow dung and chemical fertilizer. These findings underscore the significant potential of integrated practices involving no-tillage and organic amendments to improve soil structure and carbon sequestration in tropical agricultural systems.

Color: face medium brown with pale muscle scars, crown tan with pair of bright red submedial stripes extended from apex posterad, continuing over pronotum onto mesonotum, thin brown median line corresponding to coronal suture extended as thin reddish line across pronotum and mesonotum, pronotum with sublateral pair of less conspicuous red stripes; forewing with dark brown spot in clavus posterad of crossvein, in inner discal cell and in inner anteapical cell, spots extended into adjacent cells in some specimens. Male crown 1.3× longer than width between eyes, female crown 1.5× longer than width between eyes. Forewing short, exposing at least two pregenital abdominal tergites in both male and female; outer anteapical cell truncate apically, apical cells very short. Male pygofer 2× longer than basal height in lateral view, without basal apodemes, macrosetae scattered over entire surface except dorsally near base, apex broadly rounded, ventral margin with broad rounded lobe near base, straight in distal two thirds, inner surface without sclerotized bars or lobes. Anal tube short, cylindrical, well sclerotized laterally and dorsally. Subgenital plate half as long as pygofer, narrowly triangular with lateral margin concave, macrosetal row near lateral margin. Connective 2.5× longer than wide in ventral view, anterior arms evenly divergent, then abruptly convergent and fused near apex; stem broad and very short, truncate posteriorly. Style with preapical lobe short and broadly rounded, apophysis narrow and flattened, curved laterad, apex blunt. Aedeagus with dorsal apodeme in lateral view slender and moderately long, curved anterad, triangular in posterior view; shaft tubular, extended posteroventrad then curved posterodorsad, abruptly broadened with arcuate transverse carina on dorsal surface preapically, distal part tapered in ventral and lateral views with pair of slender spines extended distad from acute apex; gonopore preapical on dorsal surface. Female sternite VII posterior margin with pair of rounded lateral lobes flanking broad, shallow concave medial emargination.Etymology. Agudus cyrtobrachium was described based on three male specimens from Paraguay.

The female is here described and illustrated for the first time. Linnavuori (1959) indicated that the type specimen (a male) and one female paratype were deposited at USNM and one specimen (sex not stated) was retained in his personal collection. Upon initial examination of the USNM type collection, the type was not found. However, one male specimen in the main collection in a unit tray identified as A. sexmaculatus was apparently examined by Linnavuori and the genitalia match Linnavuori’s figures. His examination of that specimen is deduced by the preparation of the genitalia which are dismembered and glued to a card, a procedure that was typical of Linnavuori for specimens he examined and illustrated, including types, and was not a technique known to be used by other New World leafhopper workers. Here, the genitalia on the card were imaged and then the parts were lifted off by soaking in water and are now stored in glycerine in a genitalia vial. This male has the locality data (Loreto, Misiones; coll. AA Ogloblin) given by Linnavuori, but the date (XI-25-1931) differs slightly from what was stated for all three specimens (XII-10-1931) in Linnavuori’s publication. Despite this discrepancy, this male is interpreted here as the holotype. There are many other leafhopper specimens at the USNM from the same locality with different dates of collection, and it is possible that Linnavuori incorrectly transcribed the collection dates. The female stated by Linnavuori (1959) to be deposited at USNM was not found, although it is possible the specimen listed in Material Examined (above) with the abdomen missing is this female, and the collection date of that specimen (XII-10-1931) matches that reported by Linnavuori. Linnavuori (1959) stated that males of this species are 5 to 6 mm in length, and that the female he examined was 7.2 mm. However, these measurements seem to be inaccurate. The male type specimen is 4.5 mm, measured from apex of head to forewing apex (forewings surpass the abdomen in this species). The other three males at USNM are 4.5, 5.0, and 5.0 mm long. The specimen with missing abdomen is 5.2 mm.

Agudus longiceps (Berg, 1879)Platymetopius longiceps Berg, 1879: 267Notes. This species, originally described from Buenos Aires, Argentina, was redescribed and illustrated by Linnavuori (1959) based on the type and an additional male specimen from a locality near Buenos Aires. It is considerably larger than other known species of the genus (males 9.5 mm long) and also differs in having a darkly pigmented ventral tooth on the pygofer lobe and the apical processes of the aedeagus sharply bent laterad near the apex. The female remains unknown. Recent collecting in pampas grasslands near Buenos Aires has failed to yield additional specimens of this species. Given the extensive urbanization and agricultural intensification in the Buenos Aires region since the species was originally collected and described, it appears that this species is now either extremely rare or extinct.
