This bus sculpted by Jean Baptiste Tuby represents Joy. Jean-Baptiste Tuby is considered one of the most successful sculptors of the French Baroque, known for his adeptness in creating works featuring mythological and allegorical subjects. He was also one of Louis XIV's favorite sculptors at the Palace of Versailles, where he was responsible for producing large quantities of its decorative sculpture and monuments. Tuby, who was first considered a decorative artist, received part of his training at the Gobelins tapestry factory under the supervision of Charles Le Brun, who would later become his artistic director at Versailles. During his post, Tuby worked closely with his peers and fellow court artists Francois Giradrdon and Antoine Coyzevox, collaborating with the latter to create one of his best-known works, the Tomb of Mazarin (1692).   (text credit)

This wonderful bronze captures the excitement of a Bugatti racing car speeding through the streets of Monte Carlo at the Monaco Grand Prix. The influence of cubism on Becquerel's work is suggested in the present sculpture, particularly in the modelling of the rocky cliff. Overall, the stylisation of the Bugatti automobile, figures and rockwork lends a simplicity that is well at home in this wonderful composition. Becquerel was a pupil of Hector Lemaire and Prosper Lecourtier at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. He specialised primarily in animal sculpture in the Art Deco style, which he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1914 to 1922. His most famous work is The Finish, depicting two racehorses in a photo-finish.

This is the bronze model of the Peter's I figure for the monument erected in Petrozavodsk in 1873.  Peter I, also known as Peter the Great, was born in Moscow, Russia on June 9, 1672. He was Russian czar (tsar) in the late 17th century who is best known for his extensive reforms in an attempt to establish Russia as a great nation. He created a strong navy, reorganized his army according to Western standards, secularized schools, administered greater control over the reactionary Orthodox Church, and introduced new administrative and territorial divisions of the country. In 1721 Peter I became and the emperor and with that officially ended Russian Tsardom and founded the Russian Empire. Monument was laid on 30 May 1872, the 200th anniversary of the birth of Peter the Great. Then this model was displayed in the governor's house until the day the monument was officially installed and opened.

The Sanctuary of Demeter at Knidos was laid out at about the same time as the re-founding of the city, around 350 BC. The sanctuary consisted of a long platform terraced into the side of an acropolis, with spectacular views of the city below and the sea beyond. Many votive sculptures were once displayed within the sanctuary. Most of these survive only as fragments, but this cult statue of Demeter herself is remarkably intact. Demeter was the goddess of fertility; she governed the cycle of the seasons and the growing of grain. She was also associated with the Underworld and at Knidos was worshipped together with other infernal deities, including Hades and her own daughter Persephone.   This object is part of Scan The World. This bronze lion sculpture is a sketch model for a lion in the Tuileries Gardens. It is probably unique and may be an artist's proof, rather than an edition bronze. Barye's strong modelling and chasing contribute to its quality and character. There was a fashion in 19th-century France for animal studies. Bronzes could now be mass produced and the growing middle class was keen to collect luxury goods. Barye was the first and foremost of the sculptors who specialised in this genre. Prompting Gautier's description of him as the Michelangelo of the menagerie.
