19th Century France venerated Joan of Arc, a historical heorine who fought against the English and featured heavily in the anti-British nationalist movement. Chapu as an artist was focused on naturalism, and presented not the warrior maiden but a shepherdess from Lorraine listening to the voices asking her to help the King.  The plaster cast presented at the last Salon under the second Empire was made into a marble statue in 1872. This was one of the most famous images of Joan of Arc in all of France, and was routinely circulated in a variety of materials so perfect for 3D printing!

This jar was recovered from a shaft tomb in the Spiti Valley of Himachal Pradesh, India. It currently resides in the HNB Garhwal University Department of Ancient History, Culture, and Archaeology where it was scanned with a NextEngine Desktop 3D scanner in May 2017. A masterpiece of honorary sculpture from the Late Republican period, this statue portrays an elderly person with a young nude body. The cape (paludamentum) which covers part of the stomach and legs, and the cuirass embossed with head of Medusa (lorica) with functions as a support, identify it as a high ranking soldier. It can be presumed that the right arm was raised , as suggested by the chest muscles holding the shoulder, and that the figure was leaning on a lance. This style derives fro Hellenistic design of heroic nudity (effigies achillae) used, staring in the II century BC by members of the roman ruling class which had strong political need of self representation. The authoritarian, imposing stance together with the marked realism of the facial features. is one of the best examples of Hellenistic bravura combined with realistic Italic tradition. Stylisitc considerations and the fact that the statue was found in the substructions of the Temple of Hercules, which was built during the dictatorship of L. Cornelius Sulla, date the statue to between 90 and 70 BC. It's commemoration in Tivoli leads us to believe that it may have been someone from the area, probably a lieutenant of Sulla who paid for his portayal himself, or that it was a public honor in the most important shrine in the city, dedicated to the god-hero called Victor, i.e., the protector of military expeditions.

This is a sculpted sandstone slab depicting Matsya. In this large and striking sculpture of the first incarnation of Vishnu, the fish form of the 'avatara' occupies the central ground. His saviour qualities are suggested by the shrine he carries on his back, which he has rescued from the all-consuming waters. It has been suggested that many of the visual references are specific to Prayaga (modern Allahabad), sacred on account of the juncture of the Ganges and the Jumna. If so, the devotee who took 'darshan' of this image may have thus obtained benefit partly equivalent to a pilgrimage to Prayaga itself.

In terms of form, this youthful figure was inspired by classical sculpture; the hairstyle is a direct reference to that of the Knuckle-Bone Player. It was nonetheless described as a study from life in the catalogue of the Salon of 1822. The relaxed, spontaneous pose and flowing lines of the childlike body reflect the Restoration taste for simple, idealised forms.
